Recently relocated from Dorset to Brighton. The reviews on this site are from my Dorset clients, and I am now building my Sussex client base.

The idea
Before and after
A few renovations, from overgrown planting to tired structures.
Pond and rockery planting
Overgrown, tired margins cleared back, the edges reset and the planting rebuilt around the water.
Before
After
Climbers and trellis
A tangle of old growth cut back and the climbers retrained against a clean, sound trellis.

What a renovation can include
Questions
No. I renovate larger private grounds and small domestic gardens alike. The scale changes the plan, but the approach does not: understand the site, keep what is good, and bring the rest back in manageable steps.
Only if you want me to. A renovation can be a single border or one forgotten corner, or the whole garden phased over seasons. You stay in charge of how far it goes and how fast.
With a walk around it and a good look at what is already there. I note what is worth keeping, what is struggling, and what the soil, light and wildlife are already telling us. Clearing comes after that, not before, so good plants and habitat are not lost along the way.
Wherever they earn their place. Established shrubs, trees and perennials are often the best value in a garden, so I would rather rescue, divide and replant than start from nothing. Anything removed, we discuss first.
Work is timed and staged around nesting birds, hedgehogs and other residents, and I leave deadwood, log piles and rough corners where they are useful. New planting favours native and pollinator-friendly species, so the garden gains habitat as it improves.
No, I do not take on hard landscaping builds. I focus on plants, soil and light structure such as supports, edging and beds. If your project needs a landscaper for the hard elements, I am happy to work alongside one on the planting.
Yes. I plan planting with you, thinking about soil, aspect, seasons of interest and how much looking after you want to do. It is planting-led design, tailored to the garden and the people using it, rather than a formal landscape drawing.
It depends on the size, the condition of the garden and how you would like to phase it. Many are done in stages across seasons, which spreads the cost and suits the planting calendar. We talk through realistic timing at the site visit.
I work from a fixed hourly or day rate, even for quoted project work, and we agree the plan before I begin. Plants and materials are discussed openly, so you can see where the money goes.
A renovated garden needs a gentle first year while plants establish. I explain what each area needs, and if you would like me to keep looking after it, regular visits are an easy next step. Many clients begin with a renovation and move to ongoing care.
